The Guardia Civil is a Public Security Corps of a military nature and national scope that forms part of the State Security Forces and Corps.
It reports to the Ministry of Interior in terms of services, salaries, assignments and resources, and to the Ministry of Defence in terms of promotions and military missions.
It also attends to the needs of the Treasury Ministry in relation to the State Tax Guard and ensures compliance with the rules and regulations related to the different bodies of the Central, Autonomous and Local Administrations.
It is important to point out the relationship with the Justice Ministry (Judges, Courts and the Public Prosecutor's Office) in judicial police work, with the Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs in its nature and environmental protection functions, as well as the relationship between the Guardia Civil Traffic Group and the autonomous body Jefatura Central de Tráfico, all under the protection of the missions entrusted to the Guardia Civil in Law 2/1986, of 13 March, on Security Forces and Corps.
