NGWS within FCAS, at the heart of European sovereignty

NGWS Programme, the Cornerstone of FCAS

    • NGWS is a System of Systems (SoS) that comprises a New Generation Fighter (NGF), teaming with a set of Remote Carriers (RC) connected and behaving as a as a single entity thanks to the Combat Cloud (CC), as the key enabler of the SoS concept.
    • The NGWS configuration will be common for the 3 launching states, and it will be integrated into the FCAS (Future Combat Air System) which will be specific for each operator/Nation and will increasingly integrate all Domains
    • FCAS will integrate current and future generation platforms and sensors as well as future disruptive technologies to adapt and respond to the challenges and threats of the coming decades

Once the conceptual phase of the programme is succesfully over, in December 22 the new Phase 1B will address the evolution and maturation of next-generation technologies (propulsion, maneuverability, new materials, low observability, interconnected and distributed sensors, remote carriers, next-generation communications, Cloud services, Edge Computing, artificial intelligence, interoperability, etc.), which will make NGWS/FCAS the most advanced air combat system of systems in the world, while facilitating and promoting the digitalization of the sector and the birth of new dual technologies, with military and civilian application in different sectors.

It is a strategic programme, which will be a real technological revolution for our industries. It opens a phase of intense research and development work in new generation technologies of a dual, civil-military nature, which will make a significant contribution to Europe's strategic technological autonomy. It is also a project that will require the participation of companies and research centres from the three territories, working in total cohesion.
